Dream dates

My daughter used to have horrible nightmares, something that the pediatrician said was fairly normal for kids her age. She would wake up in the middle of the night screaming at the top of her lungs. Eventually she would just end up in bed snuggled up with me. As much as I loved being able to snuggle with her at night, my husband and I thought it would be best to foster an independent child and give her the confidence to sleep in her bed all night long.

We went to visit my parents over the holidays and my mother started asking her each night what dreams she was going to have. I feel in love with this idea, so we implemented it into our nightly routine. We read books, sing songs, and I ask her two simple questions:

1. What was your favorite part of today?
2. What are you going to dream about?

She started asking me if I would be there, in her dreams. Well...why not? Tonight we are meeting in a garden filled with big pink flowers that we'll pick together. Some nights, we have picnics. One of my favorite dream dates was the night after it snowed and we meet up to catch snowflakes on our tongues.

I'm curious, have you ever had a dream date? If not, you should defiantly try one. They are the best!
